About the Role

StackPath is seeking a Senior Network Engineer who can help us scale and operate one of the fastest-growing networks in the world. Ideal candidates have experience with high-density, multi-vendor data center deployments and are excited by the opportunity to build and operate a complex software-defined network. Members of the StackPath Network Engineering team must possess the ability to define and complete complex projects autonomously, automate routine tasks, manage around failure, and work across many teams for more significant initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Datacenter/POP network design, documentation, and deployment across various geographies
  • Validation of potential routing, switching, and transmission (WDM) platforms
  • Research, define policy and create tools to enhance network performance, reduce costs, and enhance security.
  • Debug network performance problems (latency, packet loss, jitter) globally and regionally.
  • Continually seek out automation opportunities and build tools to accommodate our rapid pattern of growth.
  • Mentor and cultivate the skills of junior staff engineers.
  • Participate in Network Engineering's on-call rotation.
  • Participate in broader industry forums such as ICANN, IETF, and NANOG

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of how CDNs work: Anycast, DNS, HTTP, TLS
  • Extensive knowledge of data center routing and switching systems with ethernet mediums spanning 10/25/40/100/400 Gigabit Ethernet, plus corresponding cabling and interface types.
  • Hands-on experience with routing and load-balancer hardware or software
  • Proficiency in a multi-vendor environment including Arista, Cisco, or Juniper
  • Deep expertise in networking technologies and protocols, with emphasis on IPv4, IPv6, BGP, BGP TE, ISIS, ECMP, VLAN, VXLAN, ACL, LAG/LACP, LLDP, STP, MPLS, and MPLS-TE.
  • Knowledge of network management tools and applications across the spectrum of NTP, SNMP, Syslog, sFlow, Rancid, and route collectors
  • Competency in a Linux environment and associated open source
  • Strong understanding of global IP transit and peering landscape
